How have Liverpool got on in the summer transfer window? Here’s a look at the dealings in and out of Anfield and an update on what to expect in January.

Net spend (estimated)

£115.4 million

Completed signings

Mohamed Salah (Roma, £36.9m), Andrew Robertson (Hull City, £8m), Dominic Solanke (Chelsea, Premier League tribunal to determine compensation due to his age), Naby Keita (RB Leipzig, £48m plus premium, move to be made in July 2018), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal, rising to £40m).

Potential signings

Thomas Lemar (Monaco), Virgil van Dijk (Southampton).

Players missed out on

Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham) and Julian Brandt (Bayer Leverkusen) have both opted to stay at their current clubs.

Virgil van Dijk had at one time appeared certain to be a Liverpool player in time for the start of the season.

Potential January targets

Liverpool’s pursuit of Virgil van Dijk appeared to end in June when they were moved to announce they had abandoned their interest in him and apologised to Southampton for “any misunderstanding” amid reports they had asked the Premier League to investigate an alleged illegal approach.

The Saints have since reiterated several times that Van Dijk is not for sale, but Liverpool continue to be linked with the Netherlands defender and could make a move in January.

Players promoted to first team squad

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ben Woodburn.

Naby Keita
Naby Keita will not arrive until next summer, leaving Liverpool’s squad still with a lack of depth this term.

Completed sales

Lucas Leiva (Lazio, £5m), Kevin Stewart (Hull City, £8m), Andre Wisdom (Derby County, £4.5m).

Potential sales

Mamadou Sakho to Crystal Palace or West Bromwich Albion.

Players who can’t be moved out

Lazar Markovic has had loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon and Hull City since signing for Liverpool in 2014, but time is running out for another move for a player who has not kicked a ball for Liverpool in over two years.

Players due for contract renewal

Emre Can is in the final 12 months of his Liverpool contract.

Liverpool have so far rejected all bids from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho.

Areas of squad with shortcomings

Liverpool have been searching for a centre-half all summer and look even lighter in the position after not replacing Lucas Leiva. Jurgen Klopp could also do with one or two more midfield and forward options.

Has this been a good window?

Liverpool haven’t really addressed their lack of squad depth this summer. While Salah and Oxlade-Chamberlain look to be an excellent bits of business, Jurgen Klopp could do with more options in all positions, with Liverpool in the Champions League this season. The Reds have moved quick to sign Keita, their prime target, but he will play no part in Liverpool’s 2017-18 campaign.
